This conference brought together the four provincial regions of Alberta Victim Serving Societies for their inaugural Summit held at the River Cree Resort.

Attendees came together, with the theme of “The Path Forward”, to enhance leadership, build collaborative networks, and share strategies for supporting clients. The four-day conference offered a balance of keynote presentations and expert panels on key topics—including voices of lived experience—alongside evening programs designed to encourage connection and community.

The last day saw all four regions break out into their respective teams to learn and practice cultural teachings by their region’s respective Elder.

Some highlights of the event included:

Evening Programming

  • The Welcome Reception featured a live pianist, Matt Day, and a performance by Dancing Cree with drumming, dancing, and the sharing of Cree culture. Attendees socialized over signature wellness-themed mocktails and participated in JamSocial Bingo as an ice breaker activity. The Fortune Writer created individualized hand-typed poems and fortunes for guests throughout the evening.
  • After Day 1, attendees could participate in an optional sound-bath session by Earth Harmony Sound & Wellness at two different times in the evening.
  • The Closing Reception brought back live music and turned the evening into an improvised piano karaoke session while attendees cheered on the Blue Jays in the World Series.

Wellness Elements

  • Wellness breaks throughout the conference were supported by Dogs with Wings and guided meditation sessions.
  • A “Zen Den” was available throughout the conference—a tranquil space equipped with noise-cancelling headphones, coloring books, crossword puzzles, yoga mats, and foam rollers to help attendees relax and recharge.
  • Wellness programming provided relief from intensive learning and content.
